K2 Expedition 2nd Highest Mountain in Pakistan

K2, also known as Chogori in the Balti language, translates to “king of mountains.”

It’s a formidable mountain with a height of 8611 meters and is situated on the Pakistan-China border within the Karakoram mountain range.

K2 mountain expedition has earned various monikers such as “awesome,” “Killer,” and “Savage Mountain,” which reflect its imposing stature and the challenges it presents to climbers.

The mountain’s reputation for being particularly challenging stems from both its massive size and the history of unsuccessful attempts made by various expedition teams to conquer it.

K2 is characterized by rocky terrain up to an altitude of 6000 meters, beyond which it transitions into a vast expanse of snow.

The traditional route to K2’s base camp begins from Skardu in Baltistan, which is accessible from Islamabad via the Karakoram Highway or by air. The route from Skardu goes through Shigar, Dassu, and Askole before reaching Concordia via the Baltoro Glacier.

Concordia is a significant and awe-inspiring location where the Baltoro, Godwin-Austen, and Vigne Glaciers converge, creating a breathtaking panorama of towering peaks.

K2’s challenging nature, combined with its breathtaking beauty and the history of exploration, makes it one of the most coveted destinations for mountaineers seeking to test their skills and endurance on some of the world’s toughest terrain.
