Mount Kailash is the ultimate pilgrimage destination revered by both Buddhists and Hindus. Rising to an awe-inspiring elevation of 22,022 feet, Mt. Kailash stands in solitary splendor, without any neighboring peaks.
This remote region in far western Tibet beckons pilgrims from afar who seek to circumambulate the sacred mountain’s base, a ritual believed to absolve a lifetime of sins. The journey also leads to the sacred Mansarovar Lake, the source of four great rivers in Tibet, India, and Nepal, which hold profound significance in Tibetan culture.
Our journey begins in Kathmandu, where we embark on a scenic drive through the picturesque northern Nepalese countryside. Our route takes us to the Nepali-Chinese border at Kodari, where we cross the Friendship Bridge and venture into Tibet.
Our first stop is Zhangmu, followed by Nyalm in southern Tibet, where we engage in a day of hiking and acclimatization. As we proceed northward, crossing the Brahmaputra River, we gain a profound sense of the vast Tibetan Plateau before arriving in Saga.
Our journey takes us past nomadic encampments until we finally reach Darchen, the starting point for our three-day trek around the sacred Mt. Kailash.
