Gurla Mandata Expedition

Gurla Mandata Expedition

Mount Gurla Mandata (also known as Namo Nani) stands as the neighboring peak to the sacred Mount Kailash.

Nestled in the western Himalayan ranges within Tibet's Burang region, this mountain is locally known as Namo Nani, signifying the "Fairy's Peak."

Gurla Mandata boasts six distinct ridges, with the western ridge forming a fan-like shape and the eastern ridge featuring steep cliffs. To the north lies the revered Lake Manasarovar and Langatse.

The base camp for Gurla Mandata is perched on the glacier at an impressive altitude of 5600 meters.

Gurla Mandata, also known as Namo Nani, was first conquered by a Sino-Japanese expedition in 1985. Since then, only five successful ascents have been recorded to date, with a recent French expedition team making a notable accomplishment.

The ascent to Gurla Mandata is typically via the Zalonpa glacier from the northern slope.

From the summit of Gurla Mandata, one can behold the breathtaking views of the shimmering Manasarovar and Rakchays lakes, with the majestic Mount Kailash serving as a backdrop. The journey to ascend Gurla Mandata usually commences from the Zalunpa glacier.

This expedition takes you through the iconic Mount Kailash and Manasarovar Lake, attracting numerous Hindu pilgrims from India on their sacred journey.
