Khongma Tse, formerly known as Mehra Peak or simply Mehra, is a majestic peak standing tall at an elevation of 5,849 meters. It rises to the north of the Kongma La pass and stands proudly above the Khumbu Glacier, opposite Lobuje.
Khongma Tse is one of several summits that form the lengthy south-west ridge of Nuptse, nestled between the Khumbu and Nuptse Glaciers.
When viewed from Gorak Shep, the summit of Khongma Tse presents a diamond-shaped hanging glacier above a steeply inclined rock wall, constituting the mountain's North Face.
This North Face is characterized by a diagonal ice ramp leading to the lower edge of the glacier. However, the southern side of the mountain is more approachable and is often used as the route of ascent.
From the lakes situated east of the Kongma La pass, a small, stepped glacier descends from the summit of Khongma Tse, nestled between the long, rocky arms that form the mountain's South and South-East Ridges.
The margins of this glacier provide the usual route for ascending Khongma Tse. This climb also offers stunning views of Pumori and the Lho La in the northward direction.
This thrilling climbing expedition offers not only a chance to ascend the captivating Khongma Tse Peak but also breathtaking views of the surrounding Himalayan landscapes.
