Our remarkable journey, the Kailash Mahatirtha Yatra, embarks with a breathtaking flight to Lhasa, often referred to as the “Roof of the World.” Perched at a staggering altitude of 3,760 meters along the banks of the Lhasa River, Lhasa is one of the world’s highest cities.
While in Lhasa, you’ll have the opportunity to explore captivating destinations such as the bustling markets of Barkhor, the revered Jokhang Monastery, the serene Sera Monastery, the grand Drepung Temple monasteries, and the iconic Potala Palace, the official residence of the Dalai Lama, the exiled spiritual leader of the Tibetan people.
Lhasa serves as an ideal location for acclimatization, allowing you to adapt to the unique climate and culture of the region. Following our time in Lhasa, the Kailash Mahatirtha Yatra continues through the renowned cities of Gyantse and Shigatse, eventually leading us to the sacred Mt. Kailash.
Mt. Kailash is a mesmerizing, dome-shaped peak that rises above a starkly beautiful plateau adorned with a kaleidoscope of colorful rocks. It holds unparalleled significance as the holiest of holy peaks, revered by millions of Hindus, Jains, and Buddhists as the divine abode of Lord Shiva. This mountain is believed to be the earthly embodiment of Mount Sumeru, also known as Meru, which is considered the axis of the universe. These profound beliefs bestow upon this mountain a unique and magnificent stature in the cosmic order.
Our Kailash Mahatirtha Yatra culminates with a sacred pilgrimage, circumambulating Mt. Kailash and taking a holy dip in Lake Mansarovar. The journey back to Kathmandu takes us through the Tibetan-Nepalese border town of Zhangmu and Kodari, offering enchanting vistas of the Tibetan valley against the backdrop of the towering Himalayas.
